Sigh

A guy pal confided in me that his girlfriend is breaking up with him because "he isn't what she imagined him to be."

Very often, when we are falling in love, we choose to see what we want to see - the positive attributes, bursts of sunshine and shades of rainbow gleaming from pots of gold. As the relationship progresses, the gloom descends. Nitty gritty details that didn't use to matter suddenly amplifies.

Sigh.

Many times, I have heard my friends describe the characteristics they want in their partners, only to see them ended up with people who are rather dissimilar to their requirements. Why?

Do I know what I want? Of course, I do. But does it matter?

It probably doesn't.

Hmmm... as far as I'm concerned the sentence "he isn't what she imagined him to be." is just a nice way of saying: "You haven't lived up to my expectations."

As far as what I can get from the majority of my past database records anyway.

Why do we end up with people are have dissimilar requirements? I think it's a matter of wanting what you can't have.

Or read to this. Take it with a pinch of salt though. Not everything is applicable in every situation.

For me, I'm sure it doesn't matter. Nowadays what I want (I *think*) is so abstract that I'm not even clear of how I should interpret it either.

haha..toukarin, I totally agree with what u just said. Sometimes, people mature at different levels and want different things at diff stages of their lives, and when a couple doesn't grow together, there is that high chance that they just move along without their partner.

And if you've noticed, there seems to be more situations where girls are leaving guys using this so called 'excuse'. Meaning that haaa..guys, stop being so comfortable where you are...look to improve yourselves. Afterall, a gal does desire to have financial security, emotional security and intelligence in their men.

Babe> Maybe you could get all guys to listen to this song (1st one on the list) and tell them if they don't improve themselves the next time they'll be the ones singing that song... many many years later when they start regretting.

Jellybean> I'm starting to see more errr... lesbian tendencies in you liao. Need to see doctor or not...? I don't want to see you disappoint the single-guy population in the world k. =P

hmm, someone isn't turning out to what you had imagined?? *smile*

well, it's easier to change our expectations than to change other people... after all, we are probably not what they had initially imagined as well. =)

as the saying goes,

"you like someone, BECAUSE.. (he/she has that great winning smile etc)

you love someone, DESPITE.. (he/she has that irritating habit of being late etc)"
