Double Argh
As if the week's events and stress levels haven't been traumatizing, someone above has further decided to test my threshold limit. Yesterday, I examined Toto thoroughly and discovered a scab on his face. I started to peel it away, resulting in a reddish, bald patch on his left cheek. :(
Startled, I called Shannon for her opinion. (It is always helpful to have a veterinarian friend, isn't it?) She provided some assurance and temporary relief on my part, since my parents were harshly blaming Toto's condition on his various ventures to wilderness. Ugh. If anything happens to Toto, it's your fault!, they admonished me.
Anyway, this morning, I woke up to find the condition much worse. I can't wait for the clinic to open at 930am. I am still trying to discover what is the source of his condition. He was pretty fine when Jane and I brought him to Sentosa on Saturday. Nevertheless, the source of his condition could be hiding all along within. I have no idea. Do take care to check on your dogs too, yah?
All right. Time to head for the vet. Toto is whining and I hope it is not out of pain.
Updates: The vet did a test and found no presence of parasites. Hooray! He has diagnosed it as a case of acute moist dermatitis. It is a condition also known as hot spots, are localized, moist, reddened bacterial infections of the skin. A hot spot starts because something irritates the skin. The body's response is either to itch or become inflamed. The itching then causes the dog to lick or chew the area, which further damages the skin, and creates a cycle of itching, scratching and chewing.
So, for now, Toto has bald patches on his face and his left paw. Hmm. Not handsome already. Still, some relief here. Now, I can focus on my work finally.
